Note: All meals included in this itinerary are listed as: ( B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner )
Day 0: WHITEHORSE, YUKON
Hopefully you enjoyed your travels and have arrived safely in Whitehorse, the capital city, nestled among Yukon wilderness.
Please arrive in Whitehorse in time for an orientation meeting at 8:30
pm the night before our departure. Guests are responsible for
accommodation and meals while in Whitehorse. Whitehorse is a
splendid little city and we recommend booking some additional time at
either the beginning or the end of your trip to see Whitehorse. If
you wish to fish on your trip but, have not had a chance to purchase a Yukon fishing license, you should do so this evening. Your guides will let you know where they can be purchased.
Please Note: Often our guests choose to come to the Yukon several days early, or too depart several days after their wilderness vacation. Therefore we don't include accommodation in Whitehorse in order to provide flexibility for our guests. If you prefer, we can easily arrange your hotel accommodations in Whitehorse and add these details to your itinerary.
Day 1: ( L, D)
Cabin Fever Adventures staff will pick you up from your hotels starting at 7:00 am. Please finish eating breakfast (not included) by this time. We will depart from Whitehorse by 8:00 am. We will drive southeast along the Alaska Highway (stopping for a picnic lunch along the way) until we arrive in Watson Lake, the most easterly community in the Yukon. Here we will turn northwest onto the Robert Campbell Highway and travel for a short distance before veering northeast along the Nahanni Range Road that travels through remote wilderness towards the Selwyn Mountains. By early evening we will reach our road-head for hiking in the Selwyns. After a long day of travel we will likely set our camp near the road-head and save our energy for a big climb the following day.
Day 2-7: (B, L, D)
Today we will begin our travels ascending into the alpine, spending the next six days hiking in the land of grizzly bears, caribou, moose, and sheep. Hiking in this rugged and remote area of the Yukon is breathtaking and the chance of seeing other hikers is very low. We will travel and rest each day according to the abilities and desires of our hiking party: resting in camp as we see fit, where we can enjoy good meals and fine company. On the morning of the seventh day we will return to our vehicle to switch over to canoeing gear and travel southwest down the Nahanni Range road to our put-in for the Hyland River.
Day 8—14: (B, L, D) Except Day 14 dinner, which is not included
Over the next six days we will descend the Hyland River, known for its great fishing, sections of intermediate whitewater, and tranquil Yukon scenery, perhaps taking one day off in camp to enjoy the luxury of a lazy day of fishing, baking over the fire and relaxing. On the morning of seventh day we will reach our take-out on the Alaska Highway in northern British Columbia. Here we will rendezvous with Cabin Fever Adventures staff who will shuttle us 6 hours back to Whitehorse for an arrival of approximately 8:30 pm. Dinner and hotel not included
Please Note: This trip operates in an expedition format and due to the variables of weather, and the needs and safety of the participants, Cabin Fever Adventures can not guarantee that the itinerary will proceed as listed above. The itinerary may be modified at the discretion of the guide.
